It is the qualitative Vs quantitative debate in research - so look up those terms. Quantitative is large scale questionnaires which produce pretty reliable stats, in that they can be geberalised to the wider population. Qualitative methods, such as case studies, are detailed examinations of one or just a few cases - the emphasis is not so much on how many, or can it be generalised - but, what are the specific features about this case? Why does the interviewee hold these beliefs?

Case studies are seen to be more naturalistic as the researcher doesn't define a few narrow, tightly controlled questions such as yes no, scale 1-5 which only capture very limited opinions and concepts - instead, the researcher allows the interviewee, or the information presented to guide what theories they apply and what information they relate it to - it is more inductive, than deductive :-)

Your homework question makes no sense the way you've phrased it. Talk to your teacher and do your own homework. That way you might walk away actually having learned something.
