R&P: Attention all contacts and regs, here's my song for 90s Friday!?

Hello R&P, what's up?
TGIF! How's your day? Any plans this weekend? :)

Today I'm featuring The Melvins, a totally underrated and very influential band. They are considered one of the 'godfathers' of grunge and had a huge influence on Nirvana, Soundgarden, and other Seattle grunge bands, plus Tool, Mastodon, and Crowbar. Check out my favorite song from the band:

'Honey Bucket'

So what do you think, R&P?

BQ: Isn't it ridiculous how much people care about Kurt Cobain's death?
I'm absolutely tired of it. The poor guy has been dead for nearly 15 years, let him rest in peace.
You can't bring him back to life. So get a life yourself. It's unfortunate that people care more about his death than his career with Nirvana. Let's celebrate the music!
BQ2: Any suggestions for upcoming songs of the day? It would be nice if you posted a link to a 90s song, but anything is welcome, especially if it's underrated.

Thanks, Brad! lol I just wish I got more than 3 answers.......I got 19 last week!

likegibberish: I know. Radio Waves's recent question was one of my inspirations for this week.
I don't really go into detail about the band or song for my Song of the Days; I simply give a little background on the band and post the song for people to give me their opinion on it, that's all.

Howdy, exemplars! :D
I'm glad that you gave the band a chance, at least! :)

I Refuse and Amy: Well, I guess there's nothing wrong with simply 'caring', however, I'm tired of poser fans always obsessing over it. It really gets on my nerves.

R.I.P. Kurt

Honey Bucket is one of my favorites by the Melvins. It shows off Dale Crover's drums to great effect, and is a highlight on Houdini.

If you enjoy Houdini make sure you check out "A Live History of Gluttony and Lust" - it's the Melvins performing the Houdini album in its entirety, live, something they had never done before. Many of the songs on there were never performed live up to that point.

Definitely always happy to see more Melvins fans - they're in my top 5.
Thanks for sending me the link.

Fun fact: The bass player on Houdini was Shirley Temple's daughter.

BA: People obsess - it's a bit scary sometimes. Though, I do remember being particularly struck when I first heard of his death.

BA2: How about some Riot Grrl?
Bikini Kill, Babes in Toyland, Sleater-Kinney and the like

EDIT:
Oh, and I don't know if you've listened to Flipper - but they were an influence on the Melvins and Nirvana. Very drone punk.

What's up Lily?

Finally someone on R&P mentioned the Melvins, i listened to them so much when i was also obsessed with Nirvana, great band and Honey Bucket is undeniably a great song. But my favorite song by them A History of Bad Men.

Bq: I can understand how people make a big deal out of it, i mean i like The Beatles a lot, and i'm upset John and George are dead still, so if people want to miss Kurt go ahead, i miss him too, but yes you have to accept their passing.
BQ2: Did you do any Beck yet? if not he's great also, radiohead would be cool also.

I fogot to mention my day, i'm so happy it's Friday, long week of tests, and i had midterm exams all week, *yawn* and that was rough, and then in music class in school we had to sing Viva La Vida *sigh* and my history project got pushed back to be due to March 9th or sometime around then which is awesome, because i'm a procastinator. As for my weekend, i'm going to garage sale to find a record player, and i'm getting my last Beatles CD to finish my collection. So it's going alright. I'm going to watch Tallageda Nights on TBS tonight also.

As for your awwwwwww R&P, i answered this once it came up, it just took me real long to type all of this.

Hi Lily!

My day was really great! I got a 93 on my math retake today, so next week when we start clinical at the hospital I will be allowed to give medications to patients! Yay! Nursing school is tough!

My plans for the weekend involve alot of studying. I have a huge exam on Wednesday that I have to get a good grade on.

To answer about this song: I am not crazy about it, but I loved the intro.
Just not my taste.

BA: Yes, I think it is a bit much.

BA2: I will suggest one from one of my favorite bands from that time, the Gin Blossoms. Here is one of my favorites by them

Hey there!!

I have actually heard that song before! I am a youtube junkie!

1. I get VERY sick of people talking about Kurt's death. RIP--and leave it at that.

2. Song of the days-and it's a 90's one! (1993). It's by a band called Savatage, and it's called "Conversation Piece".

Well I'm not much of a reg, but I'm an occ and (BQ) yes, people go on way too much about Kurt's death. I'm really not much of a fan of the ones who continuously drag out conspiracy theories that he was killed by someone. Feel free to think what you will about it, but enough with the trying to push it on everyone. (Not saying I'm one way or the other on what really happened, just not my mission in life to try and prove it to everyone listening)

Anyway, getting to BQ2, my nominee is what I have to say is an underrated band, very familiar to Nirvana by chance.
