You live in a plutocracy, and the Democratic and Republican are both rich class parties. They are nearly equally funded between one existing rich class, which directs their advertisement, societal promotion and networking, and propaganda factories. The rich class doesn't necessarily care deeply which party's candidate wins, as long as it is from one of the two - as both are funded by and of design do pursue the objectives solely of the rich class.
During the period 1900-1920, Socialist Party heads (since the Socialist Party was approaching victory of the White House due to its popularity) were either arrested by rich class operated police forces or killed by thugs hired from the two main parties (in answer to what happens to other parties if they make any headway - and Kennedy was considered a party hijacker).
Democrats and Republicans, if you watch closely, will always unite in Congress when the chips are down for corporate America. They carefully measure (behind the closed door) who and how many should dissent any particular bill for purposes of public theatre, and to fuel the public divide. Few can argue that both similarly overspend, overtax, regulate in favor of the rich class and corporate interests, and almost always promote candidates from rich class origins. (What rich class would care tremendously if they themselves are taxed a bit heavier by Democrats occasionally, when they themselves own and operate the government to which they allocate their tax payments?)
The purpose of the scam of having two parties (both surreptitiously representing the rich class) is to keep the public aggressively divided, squelching the possibility of rebellion against the rich class and their puppet powers that be. Propaganda is the simplistic tool which accomplishes this so easily among an ignorant public.
Yes and the best method for putting a stop to this is term limits of 6 years maximum service in congress and they collect no retirement. Then maybe they will get back to service for the people they represent. The big wig rich will no longer want the positions anymore and actual real people will reclaim the government. There will be some unqualified who get elected but that is a problem that will have to be contended with. It's the first and best step back to reclaiming our country as well.
They are very good at destroying countries...wait...I mean the world. They have actually convinced the public that this is a big wrestling show and they are two enemies that are fighting against each other when in all actuality (for those who are paying attention) they are actually working together. It is sickening but Americans have had so much blue or red Kool Aid to drink that they will never be convinced otherwise.
No, I think at some level they are just normal people trying to do the best job with the tools at hand. Our government is highly imperfect, but as Winston Churchill said "I can't imagine any form of government worse than Democracy, but it's the best we've got". But people come to Congress with their social and cultural prejudices in hand, and that clouds what they do. Only the balance of power from the Founding Fathers keeps them from totally screwing everything up, and in fact many things get done right too. Surprisingly, the war in Iraq is one of the few things I AGREE with that Bush did - for all it's faults, we have put a lot of those evil f**kers in the ground.
Yep. The Republicans have been doing it for 160 years and the Democrats have been doing it for 100, ever since they converted from true liberalism to socialism.
