Did you hear that Guiding Light is being cancelled?

I just read the article on Yahoo news that the show's being cancelled and the last air date is September 18th. Comments? Memories of the show??

I have been reading for a few months now that they were going to cancel GL, but to be honest I really did not believe it. Now that CBS has announced it I am shocked. I was really hoping that it was just a rumor and now with it being April Fools Day, I am hoping that it is a joke, but sadly I think it may be the real deal. I am going to be so lost without the show, I have been watching for about 13 years. I know this sounds strange, but it will be like losing old friends. I grew up with some of the characters and I am just at a loss for words. It will be a truly sad day to lose GL. I am just so disappointed, I still can't believe that the longest soap in history is coming to an end.

I am still hoping that something will change their minds. I have emailed them, but I don't know how much help that will be. Maybe if they get the ratings up they can stay...Gosh I am just so shocked....

Edit: One of my favorite memories would definitely have to be Reva's s*** speech, who could forget that? I have so many wonderful memories, but that is the one the sticks out the most.

While this is shocking because it has been on for so many years, but the show has really lost its audience over the years. I know here in the Detroit area, it comes on at 10 am, the same time as the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and the Martha Stewart show. All three shows pretty much have the same viewer demographic.

In addition, many people including myself do not like the format which the show is filmed with the constant camera shaking, close-up shots, and the "Live" feel. I almost feel like I'm watching a news reporter chasing after someone. Also, the story lines have not been interesting.

I prefer the Bold and the Beautiful and As The World Turns anyway.

After reassuring viewers lately that they would not be canceling GL they have. I am sure it is a numbers thing. I do understand. It is one of my favorites. I do not know a lot of folks are into soaps anymore. I was. I am proud to be a soap watcher. Court shows, talk shows and garbage will take it's place.

I am just sad. I hope they do us the credit of using the next few months to wrap up story lines, give certain characters their dignity back, not just ignore the last 50+ years. We loyal viewers deserve to have things wrapped up nice and tidy. We wont all be happy with what they do but it's better than being left hanging.

Memories: I have so so many. I just want them to bring back our old favorites. The Bauers, The Reardons, The Spauldings, The Lewis's and their spouses and kids and hangers on. This is a sad day for me. They have a lot to wrap up in a very short time.

I will be taping every day now. I usually only tape about two/three times a week. I don't want to miss anything. (I am more likely to watch if I don't have to do it online)

There have been so many great characters over the years. I wish they would bring back Holly and Vanessa. I miss characters like Maureen. I wish that they would do a tribute to Roger before the show signs off. Ah, those were the good old days...

All mild beer, Zima, wine coolers, and those malt liquor beverages like Mike's problematic Lemonade are sissy beverages. Mike's is okay in case you combine it with a shot of vodka. you could desire to dirnk a British Ale, a German lager, or a micro brew. P.S. never positioned fruit in a lager.
