Good places to be stationed...?

My husband is trying to decide where he wants to put in to be stationed. He is in the Navy. We are currently in the Hampton Roads area (Norfolk, Virginia Beach) but we are looking to move somewhere out of this area. Don't get me wrong it is a great place but we are ready for the change.

My husband is a YN. When we were looking at the open billets we saw everything from Germany to Ft. Leavenworth KS. We were just wondering where would be a good place to move with two kids and make it possible for me to continue my education?

If possible explain why it is a good place. If you raised a family and good things to do with the kids. Thanks a lot.

Oh, he is going on his shore rotation. So, that might help a little with the answers.

NAS Jacksonville or NAS Pensacola are both great locations with education possibilities and good for families.

Germany is a great place for adults but not really for kids, the education system there is very different then back in the states, you probably will have to set back your kids a year. if the kids are too young for school then germany is a great place to live. the biggest problem with germany, at least form the army side, it is hard to get in. there are few slots that open up and when they do it fills up fast.

another good place is Japan, i have only been able to visit but from how my stay was there it was a blast. japan always has something to do. the people are great and a lot of people there speak English.

South Korea just sucks. unless you are a single soldier looking to get lucky with an asian chick there is no reason to try to get stationed in Korea. the weather sucks. if its not raining (which is never) it is hot and mucky. all to do there is go to bars and drink and the area is not that safe. people get mugged there all the time. avoid it if at all possible.

now if i had a choice, Pearl. Hawaii is amazing. i was stationed there for 3 months and i didn't want to leave. the weather is perfect (you can almost set a watch to the afternoon showers) the beaches are second to none and it is a great place to raise a kid. the night life is always hopping and they have on and off base housing. also Pearl is one of the few stations that always have seemed to be growing. finding an open position is usually not too hard. there are also hundreds of thing to see there. you could spend a year and still not see everything they have to offer. Hawaii also has real beaches not like Virginia. the sand is a lot finer and the water is crystal clear. if you can defanitlly try for hawaii you will not regreat it

Let me first say that I am not in the military and have not been in the miltary. But if I was you I would choose, NAS Pensacola. Pensacola is a nice town - it would probably be a good place if you have kids. The people in Pensacola are supportive of the military and in pensacola you have Pensacola Junior College, University of West Florida, Pensacola Christian College, and I am not sure if there is one more or not. Pensacola is close to the beaches, and has youth sports, etc. My grandmother lived in Pensacola -- and we would go down there once or twice a month when I was growing up.
Personally if I was going to move from where I live now -- Pensacola is where I would choose. I hope this is helpful -- and thanks to your husband for his service in the military.

While I don't know much about the Navy, if he can get assigned to the NAS at Jacksonville, FL it's a nice place. Great university in Gainsville too. Go Gaters!

haha yeah suitable. Thailand. Japan is nearly a run of the mill costly version of Thailand. Im no longer in the army yet Ive lived in the two and been to many countries. I stay in Thailand now for good reason. comparable difficulty with Hawaii. Philippines is larger than Japan and Hawaii yet Thailand is the main relaxing and least confusing to stay in as a foreigner with the main friendly human beings in direction of foreigners.
