Should US government provide free college education?

They do if you get high enough grades. Other than that they don't, and they shouldn't. Other countries can provide free college education because (1) not everyone can go to college and (2) their taxes are much higher. In the US, everyone has a chance to go to college if they're willing to pay for it - but I don't want my tax dollars funding every single kid who wants to take a shot at college, even if they failed high school. So, to rephrase your question, should the Federal government raise taxes to subsidize colleges and Universities to make learning above the high school level accessible to everyone? As it stands, college is actually accessible to everyone except that some Universities can be more selective by charging higher rates and having different standards. I'm not sure that the higher tax burden would necessarily produce a smarter country. I would be against it. It would only translate to higher taxes. If you want a college education, the added effort you put into it in terms of funds and effort speaks well of you. That in itself is part of the education. i think that this question is a double edged sword.
because if you think about it, the government gets pretty much all of it's money from taxpayers.
in order to provide all students with free college education, taxes would go up. alot....Show more

it would be nice. but because i didn't make honor roll in school, that won't happen. with free college education there are a lot of us who could better are lives. but we don't need just free college education, we also need to work on how a person is able to recieve a job. job interviews don't work for everyone. shy people have a problem getting a job....Show more

no because they already provide free education to high school

taxes will be dramactically increasing and people will waste money on students/kids who probably arent hard working
people who cant affrod college still go based on their hard work (scoarships)
