It's the culture ... same way Americans love their steaks and barbeque ... same reason the Mexicans love their tacos and enchiladas ... same reason the Italians love their pasta and so on and so forth.

Swine Flu is in Mexico and we are in the Philippines. It's a little paranoid to stop eating pork on the other side of the world because of a flu outbreak, don't you think ?

On June 24 try to visit Balayan, Batangas, around 500 lechon is at parade on St. John's feast.

I would think the main reason is that the nobel pig is the only red meat animal suited for the islands. Yet, in the Muslim south you will probably find some goats. Filipinos eat more fish than pig and lots of chickens, too.
