Why do Filipinos love pig lechon?

FYI, there is a swine flu outbreak in Mexico right now.

It's the culture ... same way Americans love their steaks and barbeque ... same reason the Mexicans love their tacos and enchiladas ... same reason the Italians love their pasta and so on and so forth.

For the same reason anyone that tries it know's it's tastes good.

Swine Flu is in Mexico and we are in the Philippines. It's a little paranoid to stop eating pork on the other side of the world because of a flu outbreak, don't you think ?

I would think the main reason is that the nobel pig is the only red meat animal suited for the islands. Yet, in the Muslim south you will probably find some goats. Filipinos eat more fish than pig and lots of chickens, too.

Source(s): ate my share of lechon in the Phils..but I prefer kinilau!

Opppps, that means I am not a pure Filipino: - Christmas means drinking party for me and only last for two days. - I only give gifts to the people closer to me during the season. Better luck next time to other friends and relatives living far from me. - As much as possible, only few table ware in the dining table as I am lazy to clean the mess. - I don't like spaghetti noodles. - I hate to hear those unusual car horn as it's kinda irritating(sorry) - I am passionate about love but not the religion. - I don't carry too much luggage as I like comfort travels. My reaction is kinda violent, I guess.... hahahha! I hope you enjoyed your Philippine holiday.

Why not? The flavor of pork fat is widely considered by the best culinary chefs in the world as the tastiest.

Why do Americans love to shove a pound of tasteless bloody steak down their throats?

How about Chinese eating turtles and cats?

    It's all relative.

because lechon is part of the Filipino culinary culture... anyway, you have to cross the entire Pacific Ocean from Mexico to get to the Philippines; that's thousands of miles away......

Simply because it is a culinary masterpiece. It whets and sates the appetite.

FYI Mexico is many thousands of miles away from the Philippines.
