What is different about the face tanners in tanning beds?

I have always wondered, what exactly is so different about the "face tanner"? As far as I can see, it just has purple filters on it. Are they stronger than the rest of the bed, or are they designed to weaker so they don't burn the sensitive skin on your face?

They are high pressure bulbs meaning they have more UVB rays (darkening rays) than UVA rays (burning rays)
