Does it bother you when you are sending an email and you have to type those combination of letters and numbers at the bottom as a security thing so you are not supposedly sending Spam?? What purpose does that serve? Does anyone know?

Yeah, I think its rather annoying. They call it a captcha to make sure your a human and not a computer, to stop people from sending and receiving spam.
A lot of companies use email to send out mass mailings. Yahoo has set up this system so that if you send a lot of emails or mass emails it will automatically ask you to fill in the box to help insure you are not just sending out random emails.
I think some people set up computers to generate viruses. But I do know that the computers cannot crack the security codes with all the odd squiggles and designs because it cannot read it, thus stopping viruses.
