Yea it's a little rude, the parents should check with you before allowing them to go over to your house. My moms neighbor lets his kids go to her house all the time, they never call to ask if it's okay. She doesn't mind sometimes, but when they come over and raid her fridge, she gets annoyed. If it bothers you, just let the kids know that they can't come over that day. Tell them you're having family time or something.

It's obvious they are taking advantage of your good nature. Either they know this and don't care, or are pretty ignorant if they don't realize what they're doing. Then of course these type are ready to sue if one of their children get hurt while at your house. In any case I would approach them in a nice way and let them know it is quite a responsibility EVERYDAY, and that you need a break. I had neighbors like this too, but the sad thing was, I never felt my kids were kept an eye on if they did go to their house once in a while. Bottom line is - YES it is rude!

Stand at the door and tell them that I'm sorry, but you need to play at home today. Then close the door. Then call up the mom and discuss the situation with her.

Our house was the one that all the neighbor kids came over to play at. My Mom informed all of them that they couldn't come over on Tuesdays, Thursdays or Sundays. No exceptions. She needed the break and we always had family over on Sundays. Saturday varied a lot, but usually kids did things with their own families that day.

The thing that bothers me about this is (a) does the parent even know her kids are at your house and (b) if she knows that, why hasn't she offered to pay or provide some of the refreshments for the kids? Very odd to me.

It could be they don't know any better- the kids, I mean. Get the parents phone number from them and make a call. Let the parents and your own children know that you must give permission for friends to come over.
My kids are not to allow anyone in the house without asking me first, no exceptions.

Guess your house is the FUN house, that's why:) I don't think it's common, but it does happen.Today, the kids came over again and before they left, I told them we would like to just spend family time tomorrow and not to come over then. I think they are old enough to understand.
