What are the most sold items in a pet store?

As in, accesories for dogs, for aquariums, food, etc, etc.

I work at a large pet store (locally owned, not a chain one) and the most sold item is food... especially rabbit food. I'm constantly having to bag more up. Then live crickets. Then bird seed. Also bags of straw (always bagging more up). Light bulbs for reptiles are very popular. Live plants, especially elodia, is bought everyday. Ah, and frozen mice and rats, as well as frozen food (brine shrimp, beef heart, turtle dinner, blood worm). Pretty much consumable products that need to be bought again and again.

As far as popular items for each animal:
Dogs - food, collars, leads, pig ears and other treats
Cats - food, toys
Birds - food, cages, toys
Rabbits and guinea pigs - food, straw, chewable toys
Rats - balls for them to run in
Reptiles - crickets, light bulbs, frozen rats and mice
Fish - live plants, food, water conditioner, stuff for filters, ornaments and plastic plants, frozen food, little $2 floating toys for some reason
Turtles - frozen beef heart and turtle dinner
People buy things for other animals too but not as often as these ones.

As far as animals go, fish are by far the most often sold. Not a day goes by that I sell AT LEAST several fish (and that's after discouraging people that aren't going to look after them right).

I hope that helps. :)

the large chain stores sell a lot of Cat and dog food , treats and their items for grooming and apparel like collars and attire, then small pet items for small mamals, fish, reptiles, amphibians and a few invertebrates, salt and fresh water aquariums supplies.
It really depends on the type of store, a small locat pet supply store called farmland pets in silverdale has a lot of feed for horses, cattle, goats, dogs, cats, then items for reptiles, fish, amphibians then invertabrates, and then the animals themselves.

Try to support the locally owned businesses

If big chain pet stores trained their employees properly and gave them the much-needed information of different fish instead of just hiring Joe Blows off the street, they wouldn't have the reputation they do.

I would say treats for animals because In the petsmart I go to there is almost two aisles of treats for dogs! Also i think it could be chew toys because there is a lot of them throughout the store.

Food is first and was told recently that cat litter comes in second. After that I would say dog toys and/or treats.
