I finally got around to putting a picture in the smiley face box and it says my profile is hidden. I go into settings and instead of the link to unhide my profile, there is a link to hide my profile. So the settings thinks the profile is not hidden but my account shows that it is. I am so confused, this should be easy but I can't figure it out. Any suggestions? I am sure most of you are way more savvy about this stuff than I am!

The problem here may be which 'profile' you are referring to. Unfortunately, Yahoo seems to reuse designations in ways that simply confuse people completely.
Now, there is a Yahoo ANSWERS profile (which is what you get when you click on your current avatar or name) AND there is a plain YAHOO Profile at http://profiles.yahoo.com
If you click on the 'edit my info' link on your YA profile, you can hide your Q&A on THIS site -- or hide your link to your YAHOO Profile page (or unhide it). That simply hides or unhides the LINK to that page from the Yahoo ANSWERS profile page. (see, confusing!).
Your picture may not be showing because your Yahoo MAIN Profile page is set to private. So you might need to go to that site, in the link above, and check to be sure that your settings are NOT set to private there.
