my family has decided to go to canada this summer. we plan to drive and we're about 8 hours away from toronto (according to google maps)
i know we are allowed to drive into canada, but how long can we stay and drive around? what is the legal driving age? do we need to get extra car insurance to drive around? do they use the same gas that we do? if we get hurt, can we use our american medical insurance? is toronto a good place to visit and what are the must see sites? what other cities do u recommend? what is the legal drinking age? (cousin wants to go, she's 19). which month is best for visiting toronto, july or august? do i need a special electrical adapter for electronics? how much should we expect to pay for 7 days 6 nights in a hotel?
those are all the questions i can think of now. if u know anything else that i need to know, feel free to tell me. thanks in advance, c.

i live in chicago and i don't want to go too far west. we don't really wanna be in the car for more than 10 hours (not counting rests)

Wow, so many questions, lol. Ok, The drinking age is 19. Toronto is an awesome city and is always best in the summer months. The electrical outlets are the same. I'm not sure on hotel prices, you'll have to do some checking. Yes, we use the same gas. You might be able to get treated at a hospital for free (I'm not positive on this, so make sure you find out first) although you do need to show some sort of ID, (you don't have health cards in the states, do you?) but as long as you have health insurance in the states I think you'll be ok. The driving age is 16, but we have different classes of licenses here. You may have had to have your US license for a certain amount of time, you'll have to check that out, sorry. Many other cities in Canada are nice. Ottawa, or Quebec City (I recommend going to the old part of the city) Or go out to the east coast, lots of cool stuff to see there, and of course Vancouver is awesome. Also go to Niagara Falls (only about 2 hours from Toronto)
Definatly go the west. The mountains are very beautiful! You should definatly visit Vancouver. It's a beautiful city there is so much to do! There are so many nice places to just walk around like Stanley park,Chinatown etc. Go up to the Vancouver lookout for amazing views of the city,mountains and waterfront. Also visit the Metrotown mall in Burnaby. Also make sure you visit Victoria and go to the butchart gardens and also take the trip up to the town of Whistler. If you have time I would suggest renting a car and driving to both Edmonton and Calgary as well. West Edmonton mall has alot to do it has an indoor amuesement park,water park and over 800 stores. The city of Edmonton has lots of good shopping not just at the mall but around the city. If you visit Calgary make sure to go to the Calgary tower for views of the city,surrounding plains as well as the mountains in the distance. Also be sure to visit the Calgary zoo.
Ummm.... didn't you hear? There's nothing in this barren country. Oh, how lonely I am! July is Canada day so that would be much better; go to Toronto and see their fireworks. Legal driving age = 16. No, they don't use the same gas. They use refined oil which comes from the Yukon, and it can't go through normal car systems except Canadian ones. Just kidding! Yeah you can use US med insurance. Toronto is awesome. 1G-2Gs is what you can expect for ok hotels. Geez, you're so worried about too much stuff. Relax, eh?
