What counts as first day of period?

I spotted for 2 days, red, (not brown which I know would not be counted as it would mean old blood) and enough to where I had to wear a panty liner. The 3rd day I woke up with all the cramps that I usually get the first day and had an actual flow. Should I count the first day of red, or the 3ed day with the actual flow and menstrual cramps? Thanks :)

I actually just asked my OBGYN this about 2 weeks ago. She told me to count the actual first day of your period. Not the spotting's. So yes for you, the third day is your first day of your period!

The drs usually say the first full day of your period. You are right about the 2 days being brown, that is old blood coming out.
I wish you the best and good luck.

Count the first day you spotted. It's still the start of your period even if your symptoms weren't the same as normal. It is common for women to experience spotting at the beginning and end of their periods. Hope I helped :D

The very first day, you had spotting is considered to be the beginning.
