How do you recognize bias?

Can someone explain to me tips for recognizing bias is an article?

I have an assignment that I am required to identify all examples of bias in an article.

I understand how the article can be bias, but identifying exact examples of bias is what I am having difficulty with.

Thank you.

So if they state:

"I believe..."
or
"In my opinion..."

That is not considered bias????

When the author of the article uses 'absolutes'--For example, if they say things like this;
"It is obvious that. . ."
"Everyone would agree (with me) that ...."
'It is always the case that ...'
'One should 'never' ....."

Anything that is not objectively written would be the writer's own biased opinion about the topic, unless if they write "I think....---or I believe...."

Whenever you see 'always' and 'never', it is usually biased.
Unless they can back it up with fact.
Hope this is helpful.
Good luck

Firstly, you must discover who the author is, or the owner of the magazine/newspaper etc., and find out what they have to gain/lose by taking a particular viewpoint.
