How do I lighten my highlighted/colored hair?
Hi there! I last had my hair colored professionally in January (6 months ago). I had it colored very close to my natural shade (dark brown) and had some blonde/caramel highlights put in. I now have 2+ inches of roots. I'd like to lighten all of my hair so I could color it a lighter red brown shade, but I know that even though my hair is colored the same color as my roots, it won't lift evenly. What is the best way to get a uniform lighter shade on my half-colored hair?
PS - I'm not too worried about covering the highlights - if the show up, fine, but I'm assuming they'll start to blend in once my hair is lightened.
If I use a "color corrector" or "color stripper" should I apply it only to the colored portion? If I apply it root to tip, will it lift even the undyed portion as well? I'm trying to avoid having stark white roots and light brown hair - I'd like to try to make it uniform root to tip before coloring...
