WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WALMARTS POLICY OF SELLING HERMIT CRAB.IN.A.CUP ? SIGN THE PETITION PLEASE?

PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG , Star it so others will see it in your network.

According to the below link, they state.....

Crabinacup has started appearing in Walmarts across the USA. Land Hermit Crabs (as well as frogs, bettas) are sold in a cup in Walmart stores. Please sign our petition and show Walmart that we do NOT want crabinacup (or any animal in a cup) and that this type of animal cruelty will not be condoned. Land Hermit Crabs (and other animals) deserved to be treated with dignity and respect, not as a fast food type merchandise - a pet to go. Land Hermit Crabs deserve to be kept in a glass tank with a lid, an under tank heater to meet the temperature and humidity needs, enough space to walk and climb, places to hide and de-stress, and a fitting place to live until sold. Selling a crab in a cup with a layer of gravel and water is NOT appropriate and stores that sell land hermit crabs this way are guilty of animal cruelty.

All of us who own land hermit crabs know this method of housing them is incorrect and cruel, these Land hermits kept this way will not live long lives, it goes against all research, books and common knowledge in keeping crabs.

from what I have been told they sell other pets in a cup. Ok, now who educates the impulsive disposable pet buyer on its proper care, or is it taken home to die a cramped horrible death ?

Here again is the link, if you signed it you can leave an opinion in protest against this practice.

kunnoita, at the end of your profile you said,
My family and I are all Pagans and follow an Earth/Nature based spirituality. We have raised our daughters to respect all life and to treat everyone and everything with respect and dignity.I like helping people in "Answers" I try and give the best advice with the knowledge I have acquired over the years.
So I ask you does life abused at Walmart not count as life that deserves respect as well?
I am pagan as well and we too believe in the Pachamama or Earth Mother and that all living beings are capable of experiencing suffering, even the smaller majority not ofen thought of as a real pet but a disposable impulse buy to placate a crying child, but after reading your profile, your reply is now only empty words.
Why be mean for no reason when good is trying to be done?
I just can't understand your unprovoked anger towards me and the other poster when trying to end suffering experiences by those who cannot speak for themselves?

Sadly, petitions against Wal*Mart's cruel ways do no good. Wal*Mart will never change unless the law forces them to. They're a big business. They don't care if they are keeping their animals in cruel conditions as long as they are making money. People will always shop at Wal*Mart because it's convenient.

I've been keeping Land Hermit Crabs for years now, and it always angers me when a store abuses their animals.

Wall Mart should not be selling animals, period. The one near where I live removed their fish section. Good thing, too. Their fish looked miserable, and I hope they never bring them back. They had hermit crabs in a tank, but they kept bettas in what looked like clear margarine containers.

Unfortunately, I doubt your petition will make a difference. Wall Mart doesn't care, they're making money, and that's all that matters to them. If a customer buys a crab-in-a-cup, and it dies, the customer will probably just go back and get another one.

I hate Wall Mart.

I found out about Yahoo answers doing a search on Land Hermit Crabs, so this will come up in Walmart searches too, I am glad that they will look like the idiots they are. I will repost the Question to get it out there, I signed the petition in your last question. Thanks for standing up for the smaller guys that cannot talk for them selves.
It must be hell to suffer in these conditions, I see how mine like to dig, climb and interact with each other and to be deprived of these basic needs is cruel.

I have arthritis in my knees. It can be hard for me to walk about those big box stores with their cement floors (and not come out with knees screaming in protest), so I often choose to ride one of their electric carts, especially if I have to buy stuff at opposite ends of the store.

The last three times I've gone in (several weeks between visits) to the Walmart in Bellingham, Washington, the beta fish in their cups and the bird supplies have been completely blocked off with one of their huge stair/ladder things.

I believe they store the stair/ladder thing in front of the beta fish, at the Walmart in Bellingham, Washington. I wonder if they sell a single beta, or do they just wait until they die, and then toss them out?

I wanted people to know EXACTLY which Walmart is doing this.

By the way, I have complained about the problem to an employee every single time. Thus far, nothing has been done.

I have almost entirely switched my shopping over to Fred Meyer. They do not sell live pets, their store is cleaner, their staff much friendlier, and they always have electric carts available.

I try to vote with my wallet.
