According to the below link, they state.....

Crabinacup has started appearing in Walmarts across the USA. Land Hermit Crabs (as well as frogs, bettas) are sold in a cup in Walmart stores. Please sign our petition and show Walmart that we do NOT want crabinacup (or any animal in a cup) and that this type of animal cruelty will not be condoned. Land Hermit Crabs (and other animals) deserved to be treated with dignity and respect, not as a fast food type merchandise - a pet to go. Land Hermit Crabs deserve to be kept in a glass tank with a lid, an under tank heater to meet the temperature and humidity needs, enough space to walk and climb, places to hide and de-stress, and a fitting place to live until sold. Selling a crab in a cup with a layer of gravel and water is NOT appropriate and stores that sell land hermit crabs this way are guilty of animal cruelty.

All of us who own land hermit crabs know this method of housing them is incorrect and cruel, these Land hermits kept this way will not live long lives, it goes against all research, books and common knowledge in keeping crabs.

I did sign. It is not just about hermit crabs. It is about any animal in a cage, a cup, and ignorant owners. A cheap pet does not mean a pet that does not go through torture with an ignorant owner. I get why you did this.

While I do agree with you I must say that I think in some cases with the betta fish, it should be ok, but they need their cups to have clean water not filled with their scum and to have food, they feed the other fish, I've never seen them feed bettas though. Not all pet stores treat bettas cruelly though, I bought two healthy betta makes (at two different times) and the bettas were perfectly healthy and happy, showed beautiful colors (one was black and red, and the other was blue with a purple tint) they were both half moon, and though the black one did die due to MY mistake of putting him in a tank that had a fish that was a fin nipper (had no clue) he died of his wounds. He was in the tank for one night then I quickly removed him when I realized it and he was on the road to recovery when he finally let go. I miss my Knight, but I still have Aero (my blue betta) and he his healthy and happy.

I totally agree with the frogs and hermit crabs though.

I just signed it, This makes me ill, not surprising they treat the animals they sell the same as they treat their employees. Walmart gives neither adequate means for proper living conditions.
You want to buy them to save their lives, but more will just fill there place, I am inbetween a rock and a hard place.

Our local Walmart sells fish, but no bettas.

I signed, though, and was happy to. I really hate Walmart :)

Thank you for posting this! I am so sick of seeing those poor crabs,frogs and bettas in those "deli cups," half dead from lack of care.It makes me want to steal all of them.
