What is Bisphenol-A and how does it affect us?

Not sure if I have that spelled right.  We're not supposed to re-fill those water bottles we buy our water in and drink repeatedly from them.  Why is that?

I recently bought a couple really nice water bottles by Thermos brand.  They say they are "BPA Free".  What does that mean?

I was trying to tell my significant other yesterday that I wish he would drink from these new water bottles rather than re-filling his purchased bottles like the Ice Mountain and Dysani water bottles.  Personally, it's because he uses them over and over and they're just nasty.  I tried to tell him he's not supposed to drink from them like that because of something in the plastic.  He came back with "Well if that's the case, isn't what we're not supposed to get in there from the first time we drink from them?"  I was stumped.....

It is a suspected carcinogen. Heating the plastic causes more of this chemical to be released. I use glass bottles for drinking water, and  glass containers in the microwave to avoid this. You can also get the BPA free plastic, which you have.

He's probably right.  If the bottled water/pop was in a warm truck for a while during the transport, the BPA would leech into the liquid anyway, but that doesn't mean that you should just disregard that.  That's just more of a reason why you should use your new reuseable bottles.

I have heard that too about microwaving.

The best thing is to use glass bottles. BUT
that is not convenient, because obviously they break.

I continue to drink from plastic water bottles. 
Unless of course, you get your well tested and then drink from the tap and buy a thermos for over the road water.
