Transfer from Milan to Lakes in Italy?

I am visiting Milan in September and I was just wondering which lake (Como/Maggiore) is easiest to get to via train/bus. Also, where would you reccommend staying when we got there because we want to spend a few nights there.

there's a train directly from milano central station to Como , it takes about half an hour. Watch the italian train site www.trenitalia.it
