If so do you have any advice about using one? 1. Does your computer have to be on to receive a call? 2. Does the person you are calling need to have a computer? and have it turned on? 3. Is there any way to attach and answering machine or have the computer function as an answering machine? 4 Have you encountered any hidden charges etc. that are not included in the annual cost? Thank you for this and any additional comments you might have...

Great questions!
1) Your computer will need to be on to send and receive calls. If you really want, you can get a "thin client" (just search around) which is a small low-powered device that can act as an always on system for the MagicJack -- but you don't have to really worry about that.
2) No -- the person you are calling will not need a computer. You can dial any cell phone, landline, etc... provided it is within range of included calls (see #4).
3) I'm pretty sure the MagicJack software can play your messages. I believe you do not need to have magicjack plugged in or turned on to receive them.
4) No -- there aren't any hidden charges. I didn't even need to input the payment details for the first year, since the first year is included with the purchase of the device. Either way, MagicJack is very reputable. However, I've heard some iffy stories about ordering the MagicJack from their online website (the 30 day trial thing). It's probably best to purchase your MagicJack in a store -- Radioshack has them for about $40 in store and online.
You might also want to be aware that MagicJack doesn't have area codes and exchanges for every area. However, this wont affect you at all. This just means if you live in Vermont for example, you might be stuck with a Mass. area code + exchange. This simply means that your friends might not be able to call you locally (not free of charge from a landline), but this wont have any affect on outgoing calls.
