What are some good songs that deliver important public service announcements?

ex. "Throw Away Your Television" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
(try to stay away from political songs, please)

bq: Did you know that the average American spends 9 years of their life in front of the television?
bq2: Did you know that couples with a TV in the bedroom have sex half as often as those who don't?
bq3: Do you like people shooting statistics at you?
bq4: If not, what would you rather have them shoot at you?

Favorite Answer

Bert Jansch's "Needle of Death" and Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done" are always the first two that come to mind for me.

bq: doesn't surprise me in the least. sad as it is to admit this about myself, I'm probably well along on my way in that regard.
bq2: again, not a shocker. the passive is easier than the active.
bq3: why not have 'em shot at you? you can learn something interesting through them/looking into them better, if need be.
bq4: hm ... it is hot here, also. I wouldn't mind having some water shot at me either...

I am not exactly sure if this will answer your question, but this song serves as a public service announcement to me.

Linkin Park- Hands Held High

The song is about people constantly being oppressed and suffering from the constant battles that they are forced to experience. Its basically a song about a boy telling a story about what he experience in his everyday life and how nothing is changing. The rich gets richer and poor is force to suffer more each day. Basically a song to promote awareness about the issue that they are often to blind to see.

Linkin Park- Bleed It Out
Linkin Park- No More Sorrow
*Which I guess are similiar to the one above*

Linkin Park- The Little Things Give You Away

This song is my all time favorite. It was focused on the accident that happened in New Orleans with Hurricane Katrina. When thousands of people were lost to as though they never existed. It explains how people warned about the tragedy, but nothing was done about it until after when it was already to late.

Greenday- Wake Me Up When September Ends

This is similiar but deals with broader topics. Like the 9/11 incident, Hurricane Katrina, and all the bad things that seem to be happening in September. Overall a deep song.

And there are many more that I can probably think of, but I will leave to you to decide if you want to hear more of them.

Thanks for the question. Really made me think.

Could be off here, but I'll go with:

"Once In a Lifetime" - Talking Heads

Great message in that one.

BQ: Yes, I believe that. However, that won't be me.

BQ2: If I lived with a gf or was married, I wouldn't need a tv in the bed room.

BQ3: Statistics shouldn't always be trusted, they don't always paint the whole picture. Usually small sample sizes. So, no, not really.

BQ4: Bands that I should listen to.
