every shelter is different and has different rules..

I worked at a shelter for 5 years, people always had 72 hours to reclaim a pet unless it was sick or had attacked somebody..

some will require you to readopt the cat, DO NOT WAIT if he is old, he probably will not find a home...

make sacrifices if you have to.. eat lots of canned soup.. cut the internet, cut the cable get rid of your cell phones...

I lived on part time work, minimum wage job.. and stil saved up to buy a house, if you have priorities you CAN live cheap - no more starbucks coffee.. shop at second hand stores for baby clothing......Show more

Most shelters will euthanize when they get full. There is no set time limit. It could be the minute you walk out the door, it could be three days, it could be two months. This time of year though with all of the kittens coming in it will be sooner rather than later. No kill shelters fill up very quickly, and they can stay 'no kill' as they turn down cats. Once you surrender your cat to the shelter, you cannot get them back. Generally also your name is put on their 'do not adopt' list so they will not adopt a cat to you in the future. I doubt it. Shelters generally don't return pets that you surrendered. You could try to adopt him back, but not all shelters let you adopt if you surrendered a pet before....Show more

If your not finacially stable then no. Think about what's best for the cat. Someone who can properly care for it will adopt him and probably spoil the crap out of him. I know it's hard but just think about his well-being....Show more
