How do you think Ted Kennedy got away with it?

With all of the acoladed pouring-in after Ted Kennedy's death, I just wonder how he managed to stay in office for so many years?

Let us imagine the following make believe situation. Barrack Obama, a married man with children, attends a special party for female campaign workers at a remote New England location. When the party is about over, he offers a ride to a young woman from the party. She accepts, and off they go into the night. Mr. Obama is intoxicated when he gets behind the wheel. At some point, the booze and the night driving conditions lead to some bad driving decisions on his part, and the car he is driving plunges off a a low bridge into the water. He manages to escape from the car....but his female companion for the night can not be found. Mr. Obama then casually talks to some of his aides that evening, but fails to notify authorities of the accident or the fact that there was a passenger in the car with him. In fact, he never does report the accident to the local authorities. Instead, the police discover an overturned car in the water, tow it ashore and find a dead woman's body inside. It is only then that he steps forward to explain that he was driving the car the previous night when it plunged into the water.

Ok, so I used B. Obama as a make believe person in this situation. Only because he is popular and also a man that I personally voted for in the last election. But, please tell me. If such events were to occur, do you think it would end his political career? If so, then how did Ted Kennedy remain a US Senator for 40 years after the above described accident?

All I can say is; you probably had to be alive at the time to understand the blind justice in this case. I am sorry the Senator passed away, however I am also sorry he wasn't prosecuted for manslaughter. This is a prime case of the privileged being put on a pedestal and held harmless of a crime committed

Among Senator Ted Kennedy's many accomplishments in the U.S. Senate was a little-heralded but critical boost he gave to the Freedom of Information legislation in 1974. At a time when the opposition to this key bill was in need of a countervailing champion, we visited Senator Kennedy, had a very substantive meeting and secured his networking support among other Senators, which led to its passage.

One can only surmise how many major changes Senator Kennedy could have secured through the Congress had the Senate been populated by the kind of progressives who served in the mid-Sixties instead of their more conservative successors, both in Congress and in the White House.

His legacy of helping the impoverished, the excluded, and the needy in our society will persist. Our sympathies are with his family in these sorrowful times.

Well, it is well known that the US live in a word of film making, they are very good at "cocking a deaf one! You may as well say, how did Bush get away wih the murder of our lads in the East,along with his oppo Blair. Sure thing is, there will be a cover up of some sort!

People would forgive him for anything and make as many excuses for him as he did about things for himself. It's like the people who think Nancy Pelosi is an angel. Some people seriously can't differentiate between the normal people in each party, and total crazies in each party. Kennedy was one of them as a senator for all of those years, and after a certain amount of time, I think it was too late for them to turn on him. Plus he was sick and there were other factors that people were sympathetic towards him for and remained loyal.

If you watch the news you would understand. Tons of people he has helped over the years are giving testament to how much he helped them.
He made a mistake when he and a young lady with whom he was partying got drunk and he drove off a bridge. Judge not lest ye be judged.
