Amp for my car stereo?

I have a factory stock stereo system on my Toyota Highlader. It reaches a certain volume and it doesn't go any higher (plus it starts to distort).

If I add an aftermarket amp will it allow me to 'pump up the volume' higher or just have less distortion at the maximum volume? I'd like more volume because I often open the windows at highway speeds and would like to hear the music louder when driving at those speeds.

Get a good aftermarket radio...i have a pioneer for the iPod Direct ($175) now u can hook an amp up to that it will be alot Louder (with out doing ANYTHING to any speakers) and no more distortion. I recommend adding some small subs... but that really doesn't matter if u on a budget

Yes, it would help, but you really need aftermarket speakers as well, as the stock ones cant handle much power at all.

If you want quality, LOUD sound, you need to upgrade everything.

No, simply adding an amp to a stock car audio system won't fix this issue.
