Does anyone know what year the 3½"- 12ga shot shell came to being?

I haven`t been able to find a definative answer for this.

Julie T: Just go away if you don't want to hear about hunting. It's the "Hunting" section after all. Now go back to your tofu, veggie burgers, gruel, whatever you hippies absorb.

I don't really know when exactly the 3.5'' shells came into existence, however I have a feeling it was developed during the "lead" ban somewhere in the 70's.

One of those things that no-one ever really looked into...

All I could find is it was introduced in the 1970s over the steel shot legislation.

Why kill? What do you get out of it? Seems weird, cowardly and sad to use firearms on a defenseless anything. Does it make you feel powerful? They are trapped in a limited space, and you have many other food options. What up?
