Is this an example of our healthcare problem?

I was at TSO...getting my eye exam and in walks a couple who wanted the eye doctor to write a letter to the school and tell them that it was too dangerous for their son to wear regular glasses and play football...they said that if the school gets a letter, then they would be obligated to purchase their son some special sport glasses (which are 3times the price of regular)
the eye doctor said he had never heard of such.
then this couple began asking how much would their MEDICAID cover....

thats all i needed to hear....they were trying to use the system to get the TAX PAYERS to purchase glasses for their son so he could play football....what angered me more was that these 2 individuals looked very healthy, and had to be in their 30's......

I say GET A JOB and pay for your own stuff......I am tired of others too lazy to work, taking advantage of a system that was made to help, not enable..........GEEEESH people....

And last i heard, football was an elective.....not a right.

You've got it right !!!

What screwed up the prices of medical care in the first place was the widespread use of insurance. Once huge numbers of people considered health care "free" they began abusing the system, going to the doctor at the drop of a hat, and scamming for everything.

By the way, if the closet Socialist Obama dupes us into accepting "Universal Health Care" (Socialized Medicine, as practiced throughout Europe) the best doctors will simply continue with their private practice, probably even raise their rates, and the rest of us dumb schmucks will have to contend with the lousy doctors that currently swell the ranks of the HMOs.

You may be too young to remember this, but in the 1970s,many doctors and dentists would charge you HALF PRICE if you didn't have insurance. Why? When Nixon instituted the wide-spread use of health insurance, doctors and dentists simply doubled their fees so that the more modest amount they'd get from insurance patients would be similar to a normal cash-paying customer.

Does anyone realize how insurance simply made the price of medical treatment ridiculously high?

Actually it sounds like they were trying to use the system so that their son didn't get a serious eye injury while playing a sport which might represent his best way of getting into college.

How do you know they don't have jobs? People with jobs still can need public assistance. You make a lot of assumptions about people.

Edit: So it's MY fault that you didn't tell the whole story?
