He asked me to send him a package but wasn't specific about what he wants or needs. Does anyone have children or spouses in Kuwait who have asked that specific things be sent because of needs or wants?
Thanks in advance!

Having worked in Kuwait on Camp VA for 2 years, I can tell you that the PX there doesn't stock NEARLY as much as the PX at Buehring and Arifjan. Anything you want to send is welcome. Send him some movies, socks/underwear, toiletries, homemade cookies are always a hit, a few pictures of loved ones, and take the time to hand-write a heartfelt letter to let him know how much he is missed and loved. There is not a lot to do in Kuwait, although the MWR trips are a nice break. The PXs there stock all the basics and lots of extras too, so go easy on candy and snacks. The most important thing is to let your soldier know he is missed.
It's sort of funny to read about the guy whose mom sent him a Christmas tree because you can buy them, along with decorations, cards, etc. in the Sultan Center grocery stores and at the department stores in Kuwait City. Kuwait is pretty tolerant of Christians.
When I was in Saudi back in 90' my mom managed to send me a christmas tree (fake) complete with lights and decorations into a muslim country. That was like sending a nuclear warhead through the mail. I'm not saying send a tree.
Know his environment and offer things that comfort. My mom sent cheap pillows (vaccum sealed to fit into a small box. sheets, gym shorts and sneakers. My god, you have no idea how great that was. I was in a tent and a sleeping bag for months. Anyway. If he's in Kuwait, he's probably in a barracks/structure, I really doubt he's in a tent. He's got a P/X or at least access to shopping as Kuwait is still pretty gracious to us, and they are pretty laxed. I'd say send him stuff he can't get there.
Actually this is harder to answer. In Kuwait theres internet, modern amenities. Buy a cheap laptop. DVDs of more recent movies, i-pod (have someone load his fav music on it). Favorite snacks that arent commercial (I.E. sunflower seeds, trail mix). They have commercial stuff over there (pepsi, oreas, pringles ect). The idea is to offer a little bit of home.
God my mom was the best. The tree came in two boxes, the shaft and base and lights in one, and the branches in the other, they had no idea that a 7 foot christian symbol passed right through their tight checks. I got questioned on the vaccum sealed pillows though, They looked like drugs until you punctured it and phhhhooosh, instant pillow. Socks. I was in a different environment though. So those things were not available since we didnt have room in our sea bag for luxury items. And I was in country very early in the war, so there wasnt anything in the way of shopping. The first thing that was available to purchase was black market booze from the air force in bahrain. $9 for a fifth of cheap assed vodka. We bought all they had...lol
Dam..Kuwait...greater effective than residing in a Stateside Base... there is each thing there...NO strive against... 40,000 Troops sitting on their Butts bored to loss of life, doing no longer something... might desire to choose "hand-crafted Cookies" ??? He truly does not choose the rest, yet Booze and Broads...
My moms friend has a son deployed overseas. He asked for a package as well of Junk food, magazines (cant remember specifically what) some dvd's, letters and pictures.
When my husband was deployed, I sent him: -alcohol free hand sanitizer -baby wipes (unscented) -non aerosol bug repellent -food items that did not have to be refrigerated...spam, ham, tuna etc. -bigger bags of candy & snacks -Ziploc bags (He said the bugs were really terrible over there) -anything that could remind him of home. Pictures of family doing random daily activities, if there are children in the family, have them draw pictures...anything to take his mind off of that place for a few minutes! -puzzle books (if he likes them) or magazines that he likes.
To be honest with you, my husband said he did not care what was in the boxes, he just liked the idea of knowing someone at home was thinking about him & that we had not forgotten him. Hope this helps you & God Bless!
