Basic air ticketing info?

Need to purchase Christmas round trip tickets for son (19) and friend. CA to MN (He lost his debit card, so I need to pay for the flights) If I book and pay online, can I enter their names on the tickets, so they pick up there, or do I need to talk to an agent. Will a mn photo driver's license suffice for id or will they need more? Haven;t flown in awhile, so I'm not sure of the new security rules. Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can purchase their tickets online; the person who pays does not have to be one of the passengers. They will ask for the names of the passengers and you want to make sure you enter both names as they appear on their photo IDs.

You don't actually receive paper tickets anymore, but you'll get a confirmation number that you should print or write down to be safe.

On the day of the flight, they will go to the airport counter of the airline on which they are flying, give the agent their names, and will receive their boarding passes. The reservation will be in their names - not yours - so they can pick them up on their own. They will have to show ID at that counter - a driver's license is acceptable ID for a domestic flight.
