My cat prefers wet food with chunks of meat, not the pate type. I am trying to find a quality brand of wet food in chunky form. I feed both wet and dry and I already switched to the Wellness dry food which she likes. I've tried the Wellness canned food but they are pate and she doesn't like them much. I know Wellness has pouches of chunky wet food but I'm afraid the pouches will be messier than cans. I've seen other quality brands in the stores (Merrick, Halo, EVO, Blue Buffalo, etc) but I can't tell what is chunky and what is pate and their websites don't help clarify much either.
Thanks for your advice!

Wellness makes slices in broth - that is what is in the pouches. They aren't messy at all - shake them up, tear off the top, and pour them into the dish. Merrick (not the Before Grain) is very chunky. Halo is like a stew - my cats won't touch it, but other people's cats like it, and maybe yours will as well. Weruva if you can find it is shredded chicken in a broth. Blue Buffalo Healthy Selects (not the Spa Selects) is small chunks. Give some of these a try - hopefully you'll find at least one she likes.
Mine will not eat any canned food if its not the pate' kind. High quality canned food only comes in pate'. Its the cheaper stuff that is flaked and chunks and isn't good for the cats anyway. Dry food is NOT good for cats and it certainly doesn't keep the teeth cleaned any more then you eating pretzels keeps your teeth clean. Its a misconception with owners and vets. Canned and raw are far better to feed then any dry.
Weruva would probably be one your cat would like. All their varieties are shredded meat in gravy. The "Paw Lickin' Chicken" is shredded pieces of chicken in gravy - much like real human canned chicken.
Merricks - depends on the flavour. "New England Boil" is more a thick soup consistency while I think some of the others are pate.
Weruva also has a new line called "B.F.F." (Best Feline Friend) that's shredded meat in gravy. My cats LOVE it!
I bought some of the Blue Buffalo before and they were chunks in gravy. Your cat might like it but mine just licked the gravy off and left the chunks.
Call the companies and ask them. Their numbers should be on the food packaging. ....I really think they need to label more clearly. Ugh.
Anyhoo, I've found that my kitties loves the chucky stuff ONLY cuz they like to lick the gravy and leave the chucks behind!! –Sly little devils! ...So I only buy patés. And now that it's all I offer them, they eat it. ....I use Fancy Feast btw, it's a middle grade food, but it is clearly labeled. And I only buy their wet, not dry. If you want the better brands like Evo, etc, call the companies, they'll happily tell you (and send you some coupons too!)
The pouches aren't messy--you cut the top off with a scissors and pour it into a bowl or plate for your cat. Nothing messier than canned food. Give it a try.
