What kind of wet food does your cat prefer?

I am not sure whether to go with the chunks in sauce (i.e. Fancy Feast) or pate. Can people let me know what their cats prefer? Also, how do you recommend putting it with their dry food? I always mix the two because if not, my kitten doesn't really eat her dry food. Thanks!

Try and avoid anything with gravy or sauce, because that means carbohydrate overload. Actually, you can go to the pet store and get a really good quality food a lot, lot cheaper. My cats enjoy holistic, low-to-no grain foods, but then mine are oldsters (16, 16, 17, 18). I also supplement their wet food diet with 50% raw, but that is a whole 'nother issue. I serve primarily a pate wet food and I can add a little water to make a gravy if I so choose.

I do not ever, ever, ever recommend putting wet with dry. They should be fed separately and at different times. Dry food should never ever be moistened with anything as the inherent bacteria in the dry food blooms, and there can be 100% contamination within five minutes of contact. This bacterial contamination constitutes the major cause of IBS and other digestive issues, as well as internal and external yeast infections (including candida).

If your kitten doesn't eat her dry food, don't force her. Dry food is the cause of more health problems in cats than you can shake a stick at. It is okay to leave a little out during the day or at night (which is how most cats prefer to consume dry) but never make a cat that won't eat dry to eat it. Dry food is not a natural food for cats, and should constitute no more than 25% of the diet.

I've included a link (one of many) that explains much of why a cat fares better on a wet food.

Take a cruise down the cat food aisle at the supermarket and the pet store. Anything that starts with "by products" as the first ingredient should be avoided, "meat" could be anything from horse to dog. Become a label reader, just as you are for your own food.

    Good luck with your kitty!

My girls don't care about the texture. Personally, I think most cats don't; their owners just think they do because they haven't yet mastered the knack of getting their cats to eat other foods.

You *can* mix dry and wet foods together, but you MUST throw away anything that isn't eaten immediately. Dry food isn't meant to get wet, and it will quickly turn into a bowl of germs. By quickly, I mean in like an hour or so.

My cat gets Wellness cat food. I give him 1/2 can of wet food in the morning, and then I put 1/2 cup of dry food out for him in the evening.

Your cat will be the one to make the decision about which style of food it prefers. My cat is one of those that won't eat the pate style stuff and I've tried them all. She's picky - she won't eat the Wellness in a pouch either even though it's not pate.

Start with ones you can afford and get locally, if it's one of the better brands (Wellness, Evo, Merricks etc), great. Your cat will let you know which ones it likes.

I don't mix the wet and dry. My cat is just as picky with the dry too, sigh. She spit out Wellness and Merrick BG. She's eating Evo now.

My 2 cats have such different preferences in their wet food, it's hard to tell LOL...my older cat likes any type of canned food that has lots of gravy, and his absolute favorite is AvoDerm, which I feed him for his skin issues. The younger cat likes the meaty parts, whether it be pate, chunks, shreds, slices...he loves it all! So they usually will share the same can, and Simon will eat all the gravy before Norton eats the meat. My new kitten likes anything, but his favorites are Wholesome Goodness, 9 Lives, and Fancy Feast Kitten. The 9 Lives and Fancy Feast are mostly pate types, and the Wholesome Goodness has veggies and stuff in it, and almost looks like a soup. With him, I'm able to just put it on top of his dry food and he eats it all. Hope I helped a little! Good luck!

It depends on the cats, probably some how they were raised as well. I've had cats turn down the cheap food, I've had cats turn down the expensive food. The only thing I've come up with is that they seem to prefer chunks and gravy hands down.. expensive or cheap.

Well, my cat doesn't seem to really have a preference. I tend to get the pate variety, just because it's the type the brands I purchase, make. (Natural Balance, Wellness, etc.)

My stray, Jethro, hasn't shown interest in wet food, but I'll continue to offer it in hopes he'll give it a try. :)

My cats like any kind of canned food. They really like Before Grain Tuna and Salmon and Petite Cuisine any flavor. I don't mix it but you can just stir the two together.

I give mine a 1/4 can of Fancy Feast a day she likes the grilled or marinated ones mostly fish or chicken other than that she gets a 1/2 cup of dry food a day

  • My Cat prefers Science Diet canned food and also Friskies Canned food.

You can also mix canned and dry food together or just feed it to your kitten separately.
