what is the penalty for falsifying a police report in CA?

i have an 19 year old friend who made a false report on a stolen car when she actually crashed it. a few hours later investigators came and he admitted to lying and told the cops that she crashed the car and left it there. she told them that she was just scared of her parents finding out that she crashed the car. there was no one else involved in the car crash but her. do u think she will face any penalty? what are the chances of the district attorney letting everything go? and how long does it take until she finds out whether the false police report will be taken further?

by the way there were no passengers in the car. she crashed it in the mountains and just left it on the side of the ditch. where the car was placed wouldnt have caused any harm to any other drivers around the area.

I think James is right. How bad it will get will depend upon how badly she pi**ed off the cops that responded, and how bad the DA's case load is. She'll probably end up, like James said, on some type of probation and a temporary suspension of her driver's license. Her bigger crime will be the leaving the scene of an accident. She might just get a citation in the mail. If several weeks have passed and she hasn't heard anything, she probably won't.

Leaving the site of a accident? Probable no drivers license till 21. Fine, + probation or schooling.
