As veg*ns, are we in trouble with the "Veggie Libel Laws"?
These laws limit what we can say about food. Oprah was sued for saying, on her show, that she wasn't going to touch another burger because of mad cow disease.
Yes, she did win the suit. But I mean us, in trouble for what we say, not just Oprah.

i thought the first amendment was supposed to make it so that congress couldnt make laws that infringed on our freedom of speech. our government is really going downhill if they would make a law against people saying their opinions about food. but to answer your question, no i dont think that vegans or anyone is introuble with the 'veggie libel laws' the bill of rights give us the right to freedom of speech.
She can say that eating too much red meat is unhealthy, but the beef supply in the US is safe from Mad Cow, which is why she was sued. Oprah has a little more pull than most veggies and she cost the beef industry millions with her comment. The Swine Flu has also cost the pork industry many millions because people thought you could get it from eating pork.
as a private citizen in the US, you can say whatever you want
as someone like Oprah, who is more than a private citizen, basically a public image of a large company with a huge following, she can't say something that is basically untrue.
here this is my statement: Carrots make my fingernails grow twice as fast as normal! everyone who wants long fingernails, goes out and eats tons of carrots.... do they have a right to sue me? no, they are idiots... if Oprah says something like that, they might have a leg to stand on sueing her.
