Am I the only one, but does anyone else feel strange for taking tax deductions for?
I make charitable contributions to various organization during the year. At the end of each year, I always receive these statements in the mail for proof of how much I gave if I wanted to use it as a tax deduction. I rarely ever do because the concept is strange to me. I always figured the point of giving was to GIVE and not take anything in return. Getting a tax break - to me - would be like getting something in return. I'm conflicted about this every year. Am I the only one?

No, in my opinion you have the correct mentality, if you don't use them you lose them, it's up to you though, giving is a blessing, and you'll get it back 100 fold. In not here in the next life in heaven.
I also give charitable donations and I think of it this way: Like you, it's never the reason I give the donation. That said, I don't feel it's necessary to pay more taxes than I should. So I take the deduction.
We gave a donation to relief organization to Haiti well before the government announced they would allow donations to relief organizations serving Haiti to be deducted on 2009 tax returns (instead of 2010 taxes). The timing of the deduction did not figure into my decision at all - only the need of the organization for my help.
I donate to charitable organizations, and I have no problem in taking the tax deduction. I do not overly worry about getting receipts, so sometimes I cannot write it off, but that does not stop me from making such contributions. Giving is the proper thing to do to help others in need. taking the tax deduction is legal, and it is an individual choice. Do what you want in this regard.
Look at it this way -- if you take the tax deduction, as you have the legal right to do, that frees up more of your resources to give to charity.
People who have no mortgage or other large deductible expenses usually take the standard deduction. They can donate quite a bit to charity without going over the standard deduction amount. They give, without worrying about whether they're getting anything in return.
