The math is there didn't know if u still wanted ur explanation but u take everything in ( ) and multiply it all by what's on the outside which in this case it 1x

x(3x^2 - 2x + 1)
= x*3x^2 - x*2x + x*1
= x^4 - 2x^2 + x

2y(3y^2 + y^2 - 4)
Collect like terms
2y(4y^2 - 4)
= 8y^4 - 8y
