It's in our nature to wonder if God exists, to need there to be a greater meaning in life, and to search for Truth that brings it all to life. Many people who search for God are also running away from personal demons and afraid of not knowing and they are the ones who need to have "all the answers" via faith. Religion is a big tent and like a circus fair, people are attracted to different things about it. Some like the tradition & family values associated with going to Church. Others like the mysticism of ritual contained in religious practice. Others find comfort in suffering by believing in and praying to God. Some are recovering addicts who need the structure and hope religion can offer. People get different things from religion but they don't define it anymore than patrons define a circus by the booths they frequent. The essential point of religion for most people is that it offers a preprocessed pablum of answers to questions just like this, which also explains why they fight so ferociously to promote their faith and cling to the "God of the gaps" so fiercely....Show more
