In some cases private schools (K - 8) include 6th because they can charge higher tuition for the Middle school than the elementary school. (That's the only reason I can see for that change, all of the K - 8 is on one campus, and traditionally junior high grades charge higher tuition.) Some public elementary schools ran out of room so they moved the 6th grade classes to Junior Highs and changed the name to Middle Schools.
