are there films better than the hurtlocker in 09>?
The Hurtlocker is a brilliant film. It is the winner of 2010 Oscars, making it the best film of 09. But do you think it is the best film of 09? if not, name a film (released in 09) that is better than The Hurtlocker

i Absolutely loved district 9. it think it was the best of 2009. great first timer for neill blomkamp (director) and Sharlto Copely (actor). even if you put aside the whole first time thing its still great. the first time thing just makes it better.
the great thing about the movie is that it is intellectual. its not just people gowing "oh my god aliens blowing **** up!!" it reflects apartheid which being a south african film reflects greatly on the home country's past. also it is human. the main character is not this saint running around saving everyone. he often thinks of himself first but shows that people can change. it is also very touching at the end and quite suspenseful at many parts. plus before avatar stole the show, the film's $30 million effects (compared to avatar's $350 million) are great.
I don't think 2009 was a great year for films. I don't think The Hurt Locker was a great film....far from it, and far from the best film of the year. It is entertaining and highly watchable, but it's portrayal of the war is questionable, it is not something anyone is going to watch a dozen times, and it certainly won't go down as a classic. It was just a movie for the critics.
I don't think there were any 'great' films last year. Although there were some very good films.
"Bronson" (about the life of notorious British prisoner Michael Peterson) was a very entertaining, very stylish and very original dark comedy. www.imdb.com/title/tt1172570
The horror film "Orphan" is destined to become a psychological horror classic. A very eerie film, and also works as a decent family drama...the actors are all very good. www.imdb.com/title/tt1148204
"District 9" is a very original sci-fi, featuring a great central performance, great special effects, and manages to be a very entertaining action blockbuster at the same time as doing something very different. www.imdb.com/title/tt1136608
"Moon" is also a sci-fi, in which Sam Rockwell gives probably the best performance of the year. It www.imdb.com/title/tt1182345
"Shifty" is a British film about a small-time drug dealer in a suburban neighborhood. It is a VERY low-budget film, with a first time director and no big stars. It feels incredibly realistic and is surely one of the best crime thrillers of recent years. There have been a lot of 'gritty' urban films coming out of the UK lately and most of them have been depressing garbage, but this rises above the lot of them. www.imdb.com/title/tt1104126
I have yet to see Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon or Nicolas Refn's Valhalla Rising...but from what I've seen and heard...and from the previous work of these directors, I expect they're much more memorable than The Hurt Locker.
quite suspenseful with a lot of capturing and explosions. in case you've watched a lot of war action pictures, the surprising plot's not quite new. It makes a speciality of one quite good crew of squaddies in Iraq. reliable or undesirable? i do not recognize, a lot of hysteria and fatigue is what I said, there is not a lot of sentimentalism. some epic action picture? No, likely somewhat overvalued, yet in case you want a war action picture with a lot less sappiness than common it suits that bill.
