What qualifies as a "gel" for air travel?

I have read all the tsa and airline guidelines on liquids and gels but I'm not sure as what might be called a gel. What about things like gummy bears and candies like Skittles or Hot Tamales? We have a group traveling this summer and from the time we leave the house it will be over 20 hours until out final flight arrives. I refuse to pay a single penny for food or drink at the airports or in flight. I also plan to bring empty water bottles to fill after security and some powdered drink mix as well as sandwiches and chips.

A gel is really only a thick liquid, like Vaseline, toothpaste or some hair products. Your Gummies and candy don't meet the definition of gel, so no problem.

Good thinking on the food as well. I hate being pirated by airports or airlines when I travel.

Your choices should be fine. The candy will be fine, too. Airport items are expensive, and the airport knows it.

Gel= foot insoles or partial insoles.
