Language in a fantasy novel?

I am going to attempt writing a fantasy novel but I'm relatively new to the genre. I would like it to be set in the middle ages, not in this world, but am unsure on what their language should be like. I'm assuming they should speak with an old english dialect. Does this sound right? Any helpful links regarding language in fantasy novels or tips would be greatly appreciated.

It's your book, you can have whatever you want in it.

For old English, look at Shakespeare's works. It's almost impossible to understand. I suggest, if you want old English in your book, that it should be more of a slang, or accent, but not like Shakespearean language.

I really doubt I helped, but in case I did: :D
