effectively remove child urine on carpet so it will not show with a blacklight?

We rented an apartment and signed a lease stating that when we move we will have a blacklight test done on all carpets to ensure no urine is on it when we leave because we have a dog.....no big deal as our dog does not urinate on carpets.

Our 2 year old is potty training and has peed on our carpets on more then one occassion. We normally catch it right away but recently we bought a blacklight and found more stains. All of the stains are showing with a blacklight old and new. The old ones are lighter and not as prominent. We have steam cleaned our carpets many many times and even used urine removers but they are still showing under a blacklight.

Does know how to make it not appear with a blacklight test?

Just an FYI for the comment on killing. Urine of different breeds are sometimes harder to gt up. IE cat urine is harder then dog urine and human urine is the easiest, SO yes I figured it was important to differentiate on the type of urine.

Try "Nature's Miracle" for use on pet stains. Is an enzymatic cleaner and should work to eliminate all traces even under blacklight and is widely available at pet stores. If I remember correctly one sprays directly on the area full strength and then blots with a towel but do not rinse. Allow the area to air dry and that should do the trick. You can also try laundry detergents formulated for removing protein stains like blood as well, but Nature's Miracle is widely renown for effectiveness in this as it is supposed to be thorough enough to discourage re-attraction to the area by scent.

For general spot cleaning on carpets I have found the Resolve and Folex to be the most effective brands.

I would use a deep cleaning machine like the Hoover steam vac. I would pull out the rectanglar piece as if I was attaching the hose attachment so that the vacuum would be disconnected and I would use the machine to spray out hydrogen peroxide and wait a few minutes, then I would put the rectanglar piece back so that I would have suction and suck it up. The reason for letting it sit is that the urine has had time to sit and hence it would take time for any solution to reach all of it. I would then do the same with hot soapy water either using carpet cleaner or high efficiency laundry detergent so that it doesn't foam up. I would follow that with just hot water and if really paranoid, follow that with some diluted pet enzyme from the pet store to break down any remaining urine (again I would let this soak in). If you use chlorine bleach then the whole area will light up under the UV light.

If you don't have a deep cleaner, you can rent one from the grocery store ie.: Rug Doctor. Keep in mind these are not real steam machines but you simply use hot water. In many the hot water is the only heat source and some people will boil the water in a kettle before putting it in to get it real hot. The Hoover does have a heating element but the heating element heats air that it blows down onto the carpet to help dry the carpet after sucking up as much as it could, it doesn't heat the water. Real steam cleaners cost upwards of $4,000 and involve spraying steam out and laying down terry cloth towels to wick up the dirt and moisture, a lot of towels.

Ask a knowledgable source about use of enzyme cleaners, they eat away the organic stain. I'm not sure if after the steam clean/stain remover they will work though. Ask a pro......biologist or "green clean" company that does carpets!
