Do you use people or cliche pet names to name your pets?

I've always favored "people names" for my pets..(though 2 of my dogs came named from the SPCA where we fostered and eventually kept those fosters along w/their "corny" pet names).

We talk a lot about baby names so i thought this would be a fun question about opinions on what is a pet name. What style of naming you have for your pets, and perhaps what names you think are okay or not okay for pets.

:)

As an example-

Cliche pet names to me are things like:
Oreo, Rufus, Fluffy, Snowball, Champ, Max, Sam, Daisy, Shadow etc.

People names i'd use on pets are things like:
Delilah, Elliott, Emma, Charlie, Oliver, Katie etc.

So what are your views on pet names?

Alli- my first dog was named Cody. :)

i see it as a pet name only too. mostly because that dog was like a sibling to me and so his name is quite special to me.

Well, now that I'm REALLY into names, I'd definitely choose 'people names' for my pets. If I were to get more pets right now, i'd use my guilty pleasure names [ex - Imogene, Adelaide, Seraphina, Abel, Jace, Kellan, Ivan, Deacon...]. But before Y!A, my pets all got cliche pet names. I've had a cat named Tiger, a dog named Gator...and right now I have a dog named Dixie & a cat named Lucky. LOL, but Lucky was Lucy before we found out he was actually a male. And since Y!A i've added middle names to my pets, lmao. Dixie is now Dixie Marie Rosemary & Lucky is Lucky Theodore Felipe. Bahahaha.

One of my dogs has a cliche name, Snow. But, that has a story kind of we didn't just decide, oh we should name her Snow. She was born on the first snow of the year and I was little and she was the only girl and I'd always take her and play with her and I called her Snow Baby so my parents just took off the Baby but we still call her Snow Baby a lot.

My other dog is Noire, I dont' really think it's cliche, I've never seen another dog with this name and she's a black lab - Noire means black in French so that's why she got her name.

My two boy dogs, Jess and Beau, have human names that I love. We were going to name Jess Jesse but my dad wanted to use him for hunting and he didn't think that sounded "manly" enough lol, but that never worked out, he's too scared and sweet to hurt anything :). We still call him Jesse

And my old dog that died was named Kacie. Oh, and we had a Miska (Althogh I'm not sure how it was spelled) but we gave her to a lady that was looking for a dog that my mom worked with that works at the store down the street :(, she's Noire's sister :D

Oh yes, and I like either human names or names that have a meaning in a different language :)

Sorry I wrote so much lol :p

I don't really know what I use. Most of my pets were not named by me. I used cliche names for my fish and hamsters because I think those kind of names are good for small pets. I did not name my cats or dog. My second cat and my dog were both named when we got them from the shelter and the names stuck. My brother named my first cat though. I had many fish and only a few of them had names. They all looked alike.

The fish:
Violet and Blueberry were the first 2 fish they had babies named
Fish 123.... and Zigzag. Zigzag had a crooked tail.
Spotty and Stripy were cleaners
Raspberry and Blackberry were bright fish.
and there were more unnamed fish.

Little Guy was my brother's bearded dragon

Sparky was our first hamster that we only had for a week and gave away

Then my siblings and I got hamsters
Ganendolf was my brother's
Ginger Snap was my sister's
Hammie was mine and when she died I got Apple Sauce.

My cats are named Kiki and Griddle.
My dog is named Onyx. It suits him.

When I move out I am going to get 4 great danes named Apollo, Bella, Buddha, and Allie.
And I am going to get a few cats. I have only named one so far. Which is Potato. I say the word potato a lot and everybody at my school knows that...... so I thought I would name my cat it. That way I can say it a lot more.

Well, every pet that I have / had have always been cliche names, except for one. I had a bunny name Ebbie, a hamster named Herman, a dog named Sissy, a dog names Gracie (the only person name), and now I have a dog named Zeus (which could be classified as a people name, considering he was a Roman god). However, since I've become obsessed with baby names, the next pet I get will have a first and middle person name. (:

I'm good with whatever although I guess I tend to use "pet names" or names I'd only ever use on an animal. I think pets are a good place to use those wacky or cutesy names. I currently have a cat named Salem, a name I would never dream of saddling a child with, and a dog named Scooby which is obviously a pet only name. I've also had various other cats and dogs named Ozzy, Rocky, Charlie, Sheba, Yoko, and probably others I'm forgetting. I wouldn't ever use any of those names on a person.
