what are benefits to having an LLC?

I want to know if there's any reason a home office or one man operation should register as an LLC, rather than DBA, or simply file taxes as an unemployed, or self employed person.

For example, if my businesses were freelance webdesign, advertising, promotion, and some shipping & handling, and I work mostly from home, is there any reason I'd want to be an LLC?

If your business is organized as a limited liability company (LLC) and it is doing business in more than one state, you must register your LLC in all states where you are doing business. Here are the steps to registering your LLC in another state or states.

A limited liability company, or LLC, is similar to a partnership but has the legal protections of personal assets that a corporation offers without the burdensome formalities, paperwork and fees. The exact rules for forming an LLC vary by state.

Even with coporations, the only officer positions that are generally registered are president, secretary, and treasurer... although you can create others... this is why you see "President & CEO" titles.

LLC's are less formal in this regard. You can pretty much give yourself whatever title you want (I am Chief Consultant in my own LLC)... this will not be a "legal" title in the strict sense.

The ONLY reasons for an LLC would be for legal protections.

You cannot use it to save on taxes.
