Pac v. Mayweather - Toney v. RJJ?
I get the feeling that however this fight turns out, it may be very one-sided, and do nothing but attempt to settle this crazy debate.
I was also wondering if anyone else got the notion that this could end up looking a lot like Toney v. Roy Jones, where 2 top pound for pound guys match up and its just hell for one of them. I'm not picking a winner, but if Manny wins, anyone else think it could resemble RJJ's style of domination?
Toney and Floyd both have similar styles and attributes, and Manny is more unorthodox like Roy was - I think if Manny is quicker to the trigger he could just have Floyd reacting without countering like Roy did to Toney.
Thoughts (again not picking just asking if anyone else sees the potential similarities)?
- Guru, to completely dismiss Manny's chances makes your presepective worthless. Manny is faster, younger and stronger than Marquez, and isn't a natural counterpuncher. Its a completely different fight.
Floyd, stylistically, is much more similar to the younger Toney - if you don't think so then you probably don't know much about Toney, so you shouldn't be answering anyway.
- I'm talking about the matchup, not comparing the fighters. And Mayweather is nothing like Roy Jones other than they have both been no 1 pound for pound guys. Nothing about them is similar apart from being very fast. And if you were only a James Toney fan until he lost, then your opinion goes right next to Guru's. How about when he beat Evander Holyfield?
My point is that both Mayweather and Toney both are very technically skilled counterpunchers, both are very slick and have good handspeed - when Toney fought Roy, Roy's physical ability (along with unorthodox style) and agility presented angles and situations that even a great techincian has trouble with. Manny possess great agility and throws punches with speed and power from different angles based on that agility. THAT was the question.
And if you are somehow taking a shot at Toney as a fighter, please remember he has about 2X as many wins (and has never been KOd)as Floyd Mayweather, check Floyds record after 80 fights
