check engine light will not go off on my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo?

I have an 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee and since I have owned it the check engine light has gone off and on. I have replaced the gas cap like every year and just this past week we found a crack in one of the lines and repaired that. I have fixed about everything to do with the emission's in this vehicle. The mechanics have no idea and I just keep spending money on repairs that do not resolve my issue. I am now up for inspection in NY and I cannot get it to pass. I don't know what to do anymore but drive around with it un inspected because I cant get the darn light to go off. Also it is getting pretty expensive. Please help if you have had this same issue and know how to fix it. Thanks

there is a code present its the emmisions one but it seems like no matter what I replace it will be off for 1-2 days then come right back

What's the code? If it's an emission leak you need to smoke test the system. You may have a cracked charcoal canister, a bad vent valve, a bad purge valve, or any number of other reasons that go bad with the emission system. I don't believe a dealer can't find the problem, they probably know what commonly goes bad. How can it be expensive? One hour labor to diagnose, and another hour to replace the part usually does the trick. WTF are you doing?!

A code for a small vacuum leak is usually the filler cap.Is that the code you're getting?

You should not need to replace the cap every year. Some brands are not good at all at sealing. Might be worth trying a cap from the dealers, or a different brand.

Even if you worked everything out correctly you'll need a DRBIII(R) at a dealer to test and reset the light. Sorry but it's a reality. What code exactly do you have? The system for Evap. emissions uses a pump and it's monitored constantly. You may need to re-program your engine computer(PCM) to an updated revision. OK?

Are you saying that the check engine light remains on and a Jeep authorized shop has confirmed that there is no unresolved error or maintenance code present triggering it?

Get a diagnostics run on the computer, could be bad times or even fuel air ratio. Sorry you bought a jeep I worked at a factory making framed for them, they aren't built with any care.
