When traveling in car what can you use to connect your laptop?

Hello all, this is a very dumb question but how would a person go online with your laptop when you are in the car or say you are at a cabin without internet access..I'm not understanding this wifi thing at all. Would a wi fi usb adapter work for this? I've been told that the only way you can do what I would need is to go through a cell company like Verizon etc , is this true. Thanks in advance all!

Most cell phone companies, including Verizon, allow you to tether your phone. That means connecting your phone to your computer and using your phone as a modem to give you internet service. This is usually the best option because it is just a feature that can be added and removed as necessary. Or most cell carriers also sell USB modems that you can plug into your computer and get internet service. Verizon also sells the MiFi, which does the same thing, but is wireless, so you connect via WiFi. An internet device would be an additional line on your account with monthly fees, etc. It is also important to remember that the internet devices use the same network as your cell phone, so if you don't have cell service where you're going, you won't have internet service either.

You'd have to use cell-phone wireless. Ordinary wifi won't work because you'll be in and out of any router's range in seconds.

Hope that helps.
