Which musical work are you currently obsessed with?
I can't stop listening to Vivaldi's glorious "Lauda Jerusalem." I discovered it last week, and now I'm hopelessly addicted! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzo2uLfaJzY Isn't it yummy?
How about you? Is there a piece of music you're crazy about at the moment?
Hafwen :o)

You could have noticed my previous question about Mozart's music, which shows how much I'm currently obsessed with his magical and incomparable works, especially the linked excerpts. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlLbOgrSTQPQy6hkxmgoZfzty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100430024012AAZQP1L Now, I'd like to add another one of his charming movements, which is the Andante from his Serenade KV 250 in D [Haffner]. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySkOhksiMIc Notice how it starts with a magical introduction, till the main lovely theme enters at 0:47, after which there are the beautiful arrangements for violin and orchestra, through which same lovely theme is repeated.
One of his other really charming themes I've been always obsessed with and trying to find, which is an orchestral arrangement of this excerpt from "Venite pur avanti" in "Don Giovanni", from 1:18 till 2:14 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvYlZvHJiT0 However the orchestral arrangement is really magic with a slower tempo, I heard it once in a collection, and don't know who performed it, I hope I could find it anywhere!
I just saw Gounoud's Faust in theatre so I've been playing the cd over and over and singing along haha..
Others:
Chopin "Minute Waltz" Op. 64. No 1 L'elisir D'amore Traviata (all time favorite) Satie, Gymnopedie

I like Vivaldi =) yes les miserables is excellent as the other poster said, Kristina från Duvemåla is also excellent, it's just been translated into an English concert version and a musical in English will be out soon! as a matter of fact, it's going to be the next Les Miserables. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzsUxUhBCtE&feature=related there's subtitles, if you can't understand it, it's still wonderful ;D
Hi Hafwen! I never become really obsessed with any composition, BUT I think perhaps this time I will.....and precisely listening to your own current obsession, "Lauda Jerusalem" by Vivaldi.
You are right, it is "yummy"! I am really enjoying it so much...Thanks for sharing! tucomena
Oh my gosh!!!! I have been obsessed with MANY MANY MANY pieces!!! Ones that I become obsessed with every time I listen to them though are (I'm obsessed with symphonies and these composers):
1. Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony - every movement 2. Tchaikovsky's 6th symphony - 1st movement, 3rd movement ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UvA8_Pk6u_s&feature=related ), and I normally wouldn't love the finale but then I stop and think about how this was his last symphony before passing away exactly 9 days after the premiere! The emotion put into it is so indescribably incredible!! It seems very obvious to me that he was ready to pass away by choice. Like life had nothing to offer him anymore. I cry when I think of that and listen to it. (especially the final measures.) 3. Tchaikovsky's 4th symphony - first movement 4. Mozart's 40th symphony - every movement 5. Mozart's 41st symphony - every movement 6. Mozart's 25th symphony - first movement 7. Beethoven's 9th symphony - every movement 8. Beethoven's 7th symphony - first, second, and fourth movements 9. Beethoven's 3rd symphony - every movement 10. Haydn's 94th symphony - every movement 11. Haydn's 90th symphony - first and last movement 12. Haydn's 104th symphony - last movement
