What are the British going to do about the oil spill?
After all, BP is a British global energy company (even though the Chairman, Carl-Henric Svanberg is Swedish). BP is the third largest energy company and the fourth largest company in the world. Just because BP has American divisions doesn't mean they don't have any responsibility.

Nothing. If one of our companies did that to their land, they'd be having protests against the "Evil Americans" in the streets.
The British, just like the Americans,..need not do ANYTHING!
This is a "Corporate" disaster, and since Corporations move their operations out of the U.S. and the U.K. whenever it suits them, and whenever labour is cheaper elsewhere, they clearly have no loyalty to either the U.S. or the U.K.
Let them pay in full for the entire disaster,....THEY CAUSED,.. and if it means they will go bankrupt? So be it!
What about all those unemployed souls in the United States and the United Kingdom who have lost everything, because giant Corporations found cheap labour in other Countries?
I say let them fail,..and let the Banks fail also. The Human race has achieved all that it has because the human race are a very intelligent resourceful bunch. The People have achieved all that we consider great, not Banks and Corporations or Governments for that matter.
In fact, we would have achieved a whole lot more had these institutions not gotten in their way so often.
BP is a public corporation meaning that any person can buy stock in their company... it is not exclusive to the British people or government. The British nation is not responsible.
I am an American but that does not mean that I answer for that doll company American Girl.
Can you imagine the uproar if this was an American company in the north sea? It would be just like when Mr Reagan pressured them to install our missiles to counter the ones the USSR already had in the east were they burned the American flag on the streets of London
The British don't have a responsibility here at all.
The United States's and Mexico's environmental agencies have the responsibility of cleaning up the Gulf, and BP has the responsibility of paying for it. For any negligence or other criminal charges, the American division of BP and the people they contracted are accountable.
