Help with Insomnia - not able to fall back asleep when waking in the night.?

For about 2 weeks, I have not had more than 4 hours of sleep/night. I fall asleep just fine. I'm exhausted by bedtime and can't stay awake as long as I'd like to to enjoy the evening after putting my 4 year old to bed. Then I fall asleep for 3-4 hours. Then I wake up and cannot go back to sleep. My mind just won't turn off. I do have anxiety in my life right now. Any suggestions for being able to get back asleep after waking up? I've tried the drug calms forte before going to bed. It does help anxiety and makes me even sleepier going to bed, but I still wake up and can't get back to sleep.

From what I have been told when I had insomnia problems, and it's probably hard to do with a 4 year old around the house but go to bed the same time every night and get up the same time every morning even weekends. Sleeping in some days and going to bed really late others does not help. If you wake up stay in bed. Don't watch TV or read a book (too stimulating). It might be boring but after a while your body will adjust. And talk to you doctor for other ideas.

I agree with story. I am diagnosed with Insomnia but am tired of taking so many heavey sedating meds to get there ( to sleep). I also have MDD with psychosis. After stopping the meds I am back to not being able to sleep like i used to but you really just have to lay there and not do anything. It can take a long time, took me 2 or 3 hours, but i finally started falling back to sleep. Everything is easily stimulating in your mind which is why you have to lay in bed in the dark and just wait and wait. Eventually your mind will shut off again. You will have to do this until you can see your doc. Beware, prescription meds do help to go to sleep, but you will be very sleepy into the day as well, and coming off meds is pure hell (i know by expirience).

I've been suffering from insomnia since having to deal with several personal issues that all sprung up in the past two years. Someone recommended the use of "alpha rhythms". ITs an ancient treatment subliminal sound that helps your brain relax. Anyway I found a hypnotherapist that utilizes this. I believe she is the only one. I download it and it helped me tremendously. Just FYI
